Bella (formerly Lolly)

I absolutely love the Pibble site, and all of the useful, intelligent content it contains. Thank you, to all involved, for creating this space, and high lighting a wonderful, emotional, loving breed.

I adopted Bella (formerly Lolly) from FOHA in 2005. I met her at the Chantilly Expo, she sat on my feet and looked up at me with those gorgeous brown eyes, and I was hooked. I filled out the application that day, and she has been the center and light of my life ever since! She is a clown at times, a tad stubborn but always sweet. We work together everyday, and she is well mannered and has lots of friends.
I adopted another Pibble a little over a year ago, a Katrina survivor who needed a good home. He was being over-looked because of his breed. His name is Wally, but I call him Velcro, because I have to peel him off of me!! They both follow me around wherever I go, and they love to cuddle and snuggle.

Thank you again for taking such good care of our bully friends. They are misunderstood, and too often left behind because of the bad rap given to them. I hope your site can convince someone how wonderful and loving Pits really are.

I’ve attached pictures of Bella and Wally, I am so proud of them!

Meet Pete – Adopted September 1, 2007

Pete joined our family over the Labor Day weekend, and has been a model pack dog since he arrived. He accepted his new brother, Newport(15-yr. old Cockapoo mix) immediately and is verykind to our "old" guy. He is affectionate to his new Mom and Dad and has accepted our extended family and friends as his own. Gentle, kind and loving he continues to amaze us with his polite manners. Pete was very well trained when he came to us and we are incredibly grateful to his previous owner for instilling in Pete terrific skills like walking nicely on a leash, greeting dogs and people properly and politely, and sitting/laying down when asked. He also learns new things very quickly so we are constantly trying to keep up with him!

We have a lot of stairs in our house and it was apparent early on that this was a new challenge for him. He is doing much better on the stairs now and his favorite perch is on the landing between our 2nd/3rd floors or on the back deck overlooking the woods where he can keep an eye on those pesky squirrels, foxes and chipmunks.

Pete isn't treat or toy oriented, but he really enjoys lounging in all of his beds (four at this count). He is very loving and looks forward to his evening cuddles with his people. Typical Pibble, Pete grunts and snorts a lot, which is always good for a laugh. We can't imagine our home without him and we encourage others to consider adopting, sponsoring or fostering aPibble.

Caruso - Adopted Nov 24, 2007

This is just a letter to thank you so much for my amazing dog, Caruso. I re-named him Kelso but they're close so he knows it's his name. I've only had him for three days but he's already a completely different dog. He still tries to hump me when I come home but it's nothing like what he would do at your shelter. He's the sweetest dog I've ever met and ever could have hoped for. He thinks my cat is his best friend and keeps trying to give him kisses. He was pretty scared the first night and tried to stay outside to sleep. I showed him a his bed in my room though and he's slept there since. Sunday morning he was much happier and tried to play with my friend's dog a little. He was even more confident today, stealing toys and roughhousing. He hasn't even tried to poop or pee in the house. He sits by the door and whines when he wants to go outside. I was pretty sure I'd never let a dog on my furniture but he's trained me. He now cuddles up to me on the sofa and lays his head in my lap to watch TV. We left him alone in the house for an hour on Sunday to see what he'd do. Nothing. He slept on the sofa and humped me when I came home. We went to Petsmart together today to pick out some toys. He seems to love the plush ones best. He said hi to everyone and everything with no problems. I still haven't heard him bark. I'm not sure if he does. I'm not complaining. He gets his point across just fine by grunting and snorting. He makes the funniest sounds. He's curious about everything and everyone. He loves walks and car rides. He loves coming back to the same place even more. So thank you. I'm not sure how, but I ended up with the perfect dog for me. He's beautiful and sweet and I still can't believe how easy he's been so far.

Kira - Adopted Spring 2005

Well, we've had Kira for about a year and a half now... and we love her, as well as our entire neighborhood. She enjoys sleeping 90% of the day, taking long walks and jogs, and playing tug of war. When she isn't sleeping, she can be found either at me or my wifes feet begging to be rubbed on her tummy. Her favorite toy, and the only one not destroyed, is her squirrel. She brings it with her to bed, and takes it to whatever floor she is on. She likes to drop it, then come up from nowhere and pownce on it. She loves long walks, and we recently discovered that she enjoys mud.

At first she had problems with most dogs in the neighborhood, but with some work and discipline, she has become friends with a few of them. Kira doesn't like the cold, or rain, but does enjoy dips in a lake. Her favorite activity is cuddling up with her owners in bed or on the couch. She has become our best friend.

Hope this can help show how loving and wonderful pits can be. I attached various pictures, one of my favorites is when she found a basket and decided to make it her bed.

Toby - Adopted from FOHA in May 2007

My name is Chris Ramey and I am a proud Pit Bull Owner; I am currently an accountant, soccer coach to my 2 daughters and have been happily married for 12 years. Back in 1995 my wife(fiance') decided to get a dog--I wanted a Beagle and went to the animal shelter. One of the wardens told me -- "you don't want a beagle, they bark all the time" and since I lived in a condo, it seemed a valid concern. I asked what other dogs they had available, and they brought out a little bundle of fur--a pit bull. I said "I do not want a Pit Bull as they are mean." The warden told me I read too much in the press. I did some research and adopted" Daisy"--who turned out to be the sweetest dog with such a neat personality. Within a year we decided to get a companion for Daisy and we knew we wanted another Pit, and that is when we adopted Mr. Henry. Every person that came to our house were amazed at our dogs. My wife's parents (65 and 70 years old) even adopted a pit. I can not emphasize enough that they are not evil. They are dogs, they can be trained to be mean, but so can golden retrievers and labs. When I think of an "American Dog" in the dictionary--I picture a Pit Bull. Please don't be dissuaded from adopting a "Pit Bull" just because it is a Pit, as you should not blindly adopt a Lab because it is a Lab. I can not emphasize my pleasure of helping " the most misunderstood dog in America".
Sincerely, Chris J Ramey

Snoopy - found as a stray by FOHA volunteer

As a pup I was left to fend for myself. I lived outside without supervision, had little contact with people except when I was hit or yelled at and picked on. I wasn't happy being around people-can you blame me? One day some nosey lady by the name of Cindy came along as I was running in and out of the street. She found out who my owners were, as I was knocking on their door. They wouldn't let me in but came to the door and said they didn't want me. That was when I found my new home. I was introduced to other dogs and some small 4 leggeds called cats and I was on my way to being healed. I got medical attention, love and could run and play in a yard with my new friends. What more could I ask for. I never knew there were rainbows, I never knew I could find so much love. Thank you for listening to my story. I'm sure there are many like mine and we are all so grateful for your love and caring.
